Recently, ShanghaiRanking, a professional higher education evaluation organization, officially released the 2025 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). With its profound academic accumulation and outstanding comprehensive strength, the Nursing Discipline of Wenzhou Medical University entered the ranking for the first time, securing a position in the global 201–300 bracket. It is the only provincial university in Zhejiang Province to make the list, marking a leapfrog development in the construction of the university’s nursing discipline and its entry into a new stage of internationalization.
In 2025, the Nursing Discipline of Wenzhou Medical University achieved remarkable progress in multiple aspects.
Talent Team Construction: Two faculty members were elected as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), significantly elevating the international recognition of the discipline’s teaching staff.
Research Innovation Capability: The project Intelligent Nursing Assessment and Intervention for Chronic Wounds won the Second-Class Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Nursing Association. A number of faculty members published high-quality original papers in International Journal of Nursing Studies, a top international nursing journal, and Journal of Advanced Research (IF=13), a leading comprehensive journal. Sophomore undergraduates also published a research article as the first and second authors in Food Chemistry (IF=9.8), a top international journal in nutrition, achieving simultaneous improvement in the quality and efficiency of research output.
International Influence Expansion: Building on the joint nursing master’s program with Burapha University in Thailand, the university launched a "3.5+1.5" integrated bachelor’s-master’s program. It also co-hosted the First International Healthcare Conference - TRENDS in Thailand, where a delegation of nearly 20 teachers and students delivered keynote speeches, served as session chairs, and presented posters on the international nursing stage. The university successfully held the International Nursing Academic Conference of the 2025 World Young Scientists Summit, and appointed Professor Janelle Yorke, Dean of the School of Nursing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as the Academic Dean and Guest Professor of its own School of Nursing. The "Angel of Life" Overseas Midwifery Training Base for Africa was successfully inaugurated in Tanzania. Postgraduate students were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the 17th International Family Nursing Conference held in Perth, Australia.
Moving forward, the Nursing Discipline of Wenzhou Medical University will continue to implement the strategies of "strengthening the school through talent", "strengthening the school through research" and "invigorating the school through internationalization". It will consolidate the foundation for development by gathering top talents, drive the improvement of connotation through scientific and technological innovation, expand development space with an international perspective, and write a new chapter for the high-quality development of nursing in the new era.
It is reported that the 2025 GRAS added two new disciplines, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Science and Engineering, bringing the total number of ranked disciplines to 57, covering five major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medicine, and Social Sciences. The ranking’s indicator system focuses on five core modules: world-class faculty, world-class research outcomes, high-level research achievements, research influence, and international cooperation. All indicators are objective and internationally comparable academic metrics. The ranking evaluates more than 3,000 universities worldwide, and the final published list features nearly 20,000 academic disciplines from over 2,000 universities across 92 countries and regions.
