  • Summer Study Visit | Nursing Exchange Program at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand・Part 1
  • The winds of July brought an invitation. Eager to explore new horizons in nursing through classes and practice, make new friends and broaden our perspectives, we wished to fill this summer with growth and passion. Accompanied by one faculty leader, 10 students from the School of Nursing at Wenzhou Medical University traveled far to Prince of Songkla University (PSU) in Thailand to kick off a four-week academic exchange program. This visit aimed to expand international horizons, explore diverse nursing practices and strengthen China-Thailand friendship.

Founded in 1967, Prince of Songkla University (PSU) is a top public comprehensive university in southern Thailand, boasting complete academic disciplines and a large student population. To cultivate outstanding nursing talents, the School of Nursing at WMU established a partnership with PSU’s School of Nursing, exchanging outstanding students for academic visits. This exchange focused on the characteristics and development trends of nursing under different cultural backgrounds, injecting vitality into the innovative development of nursing.

Language differences did not hinder communication. The students skillfully used body language and simple phrases (e.g., "Sawasdee ka/krap"), humbly learned Thai etiquette (such as the wai gesture), shared the warmth of smiles, and leveraged collective communication wisdom, keeping lively discussions going. The Thai teachers’ patient explanations and thoughtful meals quickly melted away the initial unfamiliarity. Dr. Cheng Linan, the faculty leader, emphasized: "Sincerity in communication transcends language barriers." This experience profoundly proved that when hearts are open, communication knows no bounds.

To deepen professional understanding and promote China-Thailand nursing experience sharing, the exchange group fully participated in two featured courses:

Adult Nursing Ⅱ: Concepts of Multiple Organ Injury NursingIn this course, students focused on core trauma emergency care, such as the Primary Survey (ABCDEs) and prevention of the lethal triad. They strengthened their understanding of the sequence of assessment and intervention, and deeply grasped the critical role of emergency procedures in saving lives.
