We recently learned that the American Academy of Nursing announced its 2025 list of newly elected Fellows (FAAN). Professor Cai Fuman, Dean of the School of Nursing, has been successfully elected in recognition of his academic influence in the field of chronic wound care. This not only attests to the high recognition of his academic accomplishments in this domain, but also reflects the full international nursing community’s affirmation of the achievements of our university’s nursing discipline, which features chronic wound care as its hallmark strength.
Professor Cai Fuman’s successful election on his first application stems from his outstanding achievements in chronic wound care research over many years. His research findings have been published as high-quality papers in top international journals including the British Journal of Dermatology (IF=9.6), Journal of Advanced Research (IF=13.0), and Mater Today Bio (IF=10.2). In parallel, he has actively promoted the clinical application and translation of his research outcomes, securing 8 national invention patents and 6 utility model patents as the first inventor; several of these patents have been successfully translated into products, which will exert a far-reaching impact on chronic wound care practice.

In addition, leveraging his academic positions as Standing Committee Member of the Enterostomal and Wound Integrated Nursing Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and Standing Committee Member of the Medical Technology Innovation and Achievement Transformation Committee of the China Medicine Education Association, Professor Cai has vigorously advanced academic exchanges in chronic wound care. As the director of the International Enterostomal Therapy Nurse School (Wenzhou), accredited by the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET), he has led his team to successfully run 15 training sessions in recent years, cultivating over 350 international enterostomal therapists for 32 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, Hong Kong and Macao across China. He also attaches great importance to feeding back research achievements into teaching: his supervised postgraduate theses have been selected as Outstanding Master’s Theses of Zhejiang Province, Excellent Practice Achievement Awards for Professional Master’s Degrees and Top 100 Excellent Papers by the Chinese Nursing Association; his supervised undergraduate students have won numerous awards such as the first prize in the "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition (Black Technology Special) and the gold award in the Zhejiang International "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
Founded in 1973, the American Academy of Nursing follows a highly competitive and rigorous selection process for FAAN candidates. Elected Fellows must have extensive influence in one or more areas including service, practice, education, advocacy, policy, government, military, academia or others. Currently, there are over 3,200 Fellows across 55 countries and regions worldwide, who actively advocate for and advance global health. Election as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing marks a major milestone in a nursing expert’s career, regarded as one of the highest honors in nursing in the United States and one of the most prestigious honors in the global nursing community.
