To accelerate the international talent‑training layout for the nursing discipline and align with global cutting‑edge paradigms of nursing education, supported by the long‑term in‑depth cooperation between our School of Nursing and the School of Nursing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as the “Ten‑Thousand‑Person Plan” for faculty and student exchanges with Hong Kong and Macao higher‑education institutions under the Ministry of Education, Chen Binyan and Dai Shimeng, two Grade‑2024 postgraduate students of our school, have successfully completed the two‑week 2026 Summer Nursing Exchange Study Programme at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They have returned to campus with frontier professional knowledge and cross‑cultural practical achievements.
This summer exchange programme at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University gathered outstanding nursing students from more than 20 domestic 985, 211 and Double First‑Class universities including Peking Union Medical College, Sichuan University and Central South University, as well as world‑renowned overseas universities such as the National University of Singapore, University of the Philippines Manila and Hiroshima University. Chen Binyan and Dai Shimeng, postgraduates from the School of Nursing, Wenzhou Medical University, fully engaged in academic courses, clinical site visits, research workshops and cross‑cultural seminars. Studying, practicing and competing side‑by‑side with outstanding young scholars home and abroad, they demonstrated solid professional competence and excellent comprehensive qualities of our students. They achieved peer learning and shared growth on the same platform with students from top‑tier nursing institutions worldwide.
Postgraduates’ Study Tour in Hong Kong Highlights the Comprehensive Training Outcomes of Our Graduate Programme
Chen Binyan, professional‑track master’s student (Class of 2024), supervised by Professor Cai Fuman. Her comprehensive course assessment ranks within the top 5% of her grade. She serves as monitor of her class. She has been awarded the First‑Class Postgraduate Scholarship at university level, University‑level Outstanding Communist Party Member, School‑level Academic Star and other honours. She has participated in 8 academic publications, among which 5 are as first or co‑first author (highest IF = 12.8), including 2 Q1 (TOP) journal papers and 3 Q2 journal papers. She is also a recipient of the Wiley China High‑Contribution Author Award.
Dai Shimeng, academic‑track master’s student (Class of 2024), supervised by Professor Dong Chaoqun. Her comprehensive course assessment ranks 2nd in her grade. She holds multiple positions including Chair of the Postgraduate Union of the School of Nursing, class organisation committee member and dormitory head. She has received honours such as University‑level First‑Class Postgraduate Scholarship, University‑level Top‑Ten Postgraduate, University‑level Outstanding Postgraduate Cadre, School‑level Outstanding League Cadre and Teaching‑Assisting Star. She has contributed to 10 academic papers, 4 as first or co‑first author, covering one Q1 paper, one Q2 paper, one Q3 paper and one Chinese‑core journal paper. She has been invited to deliver oral presentations at international conferences including the Healthy Ageing Conference 2025 and the 8th Sigma European Regional Conference 2026.
Immersive Multi‑Dimensional Study Programme Connects Postgraduates to Global Frontiers of Nursing
Adopting an integrated training model of “cutting‑edge international academic learning + simulated clinical training + on‑site institutional visits”, this PolyU‑hosted study programme comprehensively sharpens postgraduates’ international academic and clinical thinking, broadens their professional horizons and enhances their overall competencies. Lectures were delivered by senior nursing experts from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on frontier themes including Hong Kong’s healthcare system, AI‑empowered smart nursing, integrated geriatric care and nursing research leadership, helping participants develop globally‑oriented critical reasoning for nursing research. During practical training sessions, students took part in hands‑on drills in nursing simulation laboratories and virtual‑hospitals to strengthen their clinical decision‑making and practical capabilities. Furthermore, the study‑tour group visited elderly‑care facilities, ambulance stations, the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital School of Nursing and distinctive cultural venues. They systematically studied characteristic service models of Hong‑Kong‑style long‑term care, emergency first‑aid, clinical nursing in private hospitals and humanistic care for special populations, drawing advanced concepts and practical experience from Hong Kong’s nursing sector.
At the final achievement‑sharing session, the two postgraduates joined multinational discussion groups with peers from other domestic and overseas universities. They delivered full‑English academic presentations comparing and analysing disparities between healthcare‑service systems in Chinese mainland and the Philippines. Their insightful perspectives and standardised international‑style academic communication won high recognition from on‑site industry experts. Both were awarded official certificates of attendance issued by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Building Collaborative Platforms to Improve the School’s International Education Quality
In recent years, the School of Nursing has established a stable, comprehensive and in‑depth collaborative mechanism with the School of Nursing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Regular initiatives include joint postgraduate‑doctoral training, reciprocal visits and appointments of faculty, short‑term cross‑border exchange programmes, participation in international academic conferences, joint research projects and co‑development of high‑quality curricula. A mature and sustainable Zhejiang‑Hong‑Kong high‑end academic‑exchange channel has been set up. The successful selection and completion of this study tour by our two postgraduates marks a phased achievement of the school’s continuous commitment to international graduate education and institutional capacity‑building. Their outstanding performance while studying and competing alongside students from world‑class universities also testifies to the steady improvement of our graduate‑training quality and international education platform.
Prioritising international‑oriented talent cultivation, the school has kept expanding global academic horizons and strengthening postgraduates’ international research competitiveness by refining a systematic and regular international education mechanism with fruitful outcomes. Since 2025, 23 postgraduates have been dispatched for research visits and international academic exchanges to Hong Kong of China, Singapore, Australia, Finland, Thailand and other regions and countries. On the global academic stage, our students have presented latest research findings via oral presentations and poster sessions at high‑profile international conferences such as Sigma Asia/Europe Regional Conferences, East‑Asian Nursing Scholars Forum, International Family Nursing Conference and The Education University of Hong Kong International Postgraduate Academic Forum. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of our regular international‑training system and effectively foster postgraduates’ cross‑cultural communication and international academic critical‑thinking abilities.
Looking ahead, the School of Nursing will further deepen long‑term partnerships with leading global higher‑education institutions represented by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It will enrich international education carriers, leverage high‑level cross‑border academic exchanges to advance disciplinary development, teaching reform and research innovation, and strengthen its distinctive brand for postgraduate international‑exchange programmes. The school aims to cultivate high‑calibre interdisciplinary new‑era nursing professionals equipped with solid professional expertise, global research vision and advanced cross‑cultural communication skills.
